Wash Indoor Trash Cans
I can't tell if this is the most obvious or most surprising home maintenance tip -- but washing interior garbage cans monthly can have a dramatic effect on controlling odors. A little soap and water go a long way.
In between, sprinkle a little kitty litter or borax to control escaping odors. And, my favorite, using odor killing trash bags. These really are effective at limiting the impact of strong odors from inside the garbage can while it's still being filled.
